Description from the seller
Splendid and monumental handmade Italian artisanal king-size bedspread, dating from the late 1950s and originating from an important antique trousseau. This textile masterpiece is the result of months of skilled and patient work, entirely done by hand, as evidenced by the microscopic and fascinating asymmetries typical of true crochet work.
Technical and Construction Characteristics:
• The Ireland Rose Motif: it consists of no fewer than 256 modular geometric tiles, where at the center of each tile stands a sumptuous rose worked in double and treble crochet, creating an exceptional three-dimensional (relief) effect. This technique (known as the Ireland Rose) gives the fabric a rich texture and a magnificent play of light and shade depending on the light.
• The Assembly: around the central rose develops a geometric network of small hollow chain-stitch squares. The 256 tiles were joined together by hand one by one, using a thread identical in color but finer, ensuring a robust, invisible join and extreme sartorial elegance.
• Border Finishing: the base of the bedspread is enriched and finished with a monumental frill of very elaborate festoons, framing the bed with a soft and sinuous fall.
• Generous Dimensions: 245 x 200 cm, an ideal coverage for modern double beds, offering a length sufficient to elegantly cover even the pillow area.
• Texture: The substantial weight of about 3,800 grams testifies to the use of a high-quality pure cotton spun yarn, full-bodied, durable and with a warm and elegant tone (cream white / natural light ivory, not chemically bleached).
State of Preservation: perfectly preserved for decades within a family trousseau, protected from light and wear. It shows no damp stains, yellowing, pulled threads, odors or restorations. The textile fibers are fully intact, firm and sturdy. A piece ready to be collected or used immediately: a true timeless textile work of art, perfect to adorn bedrooms in heritage residences or in spaces with Grandmillennial and Shabby Chic design.
