AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Product Description:

Magnificent and heavy Merchant Samovar from the late tsarist era of Russia – an outstanding collector’s item.

For sale is an exceptionally well-preserved, original charcoal-fired samovar made of heavy brass, manufactured in the world-renowned Russian metalworking city of Tula. The piece is distinguished by its rare double stamping (on both the lid and the base) and is in an untouched, authentic original condition.

Origin & Historical Classification
The object bears historically valuable factory impressed logos and medals that guarantee its authenticity:
• Imprint on the lid: three-line, sharply engraved manufacturer’s script in Cyrillic: В ТУЛѢ (In Tula) / МИХАИЛЪ (Mikhail) / ЗУБОВЪ (Zubov).
• Imprints on the base: these bear the valuable factory decoration medals. Readable is, among others, the state award of the Russian Empire with the imperial double-headed eagle and the inscription ОТЪ МИНИСТ. ГОСУД. ИМУЩ. (From the Ministry of State Property), flanked by the family signature ЗУБОВЫХ.

These markings unequivocally identify the piece as an original from the renowned Michail Alexejewitsch Subow factory (opened 1899, active until around 1910). The factory was known for its high-quality, heavy “merchant’s samovars” for the upper echelons of society. Another authenticity feature is the original workshop number "62", which is stamped on the accessories and documents the manual adjustment of the individual parts.

Details & Accessories
• Material: Very thick-walled, solid brass with a total weight of almost 4.9 kg. Handles and grip areas made from turned hardwood.
• Form: Classic, bulbous globe shape on a richly profiled, square pedestal base, resting on four ornate spherical feet.
• Completeness: The set is exceptionally complete. It includes the main body with original tap (delicate T-handle with an intricate floral rosette), the original inner chimney, the perfectly fitting detachable extension tube with a wooden handle, and the original steam ring/crown attachment.

Condition & Preservation
• Excellent historical condition: The samovar features an excellent, untouched patina with a fine historic shine.
• The heavy brass shows no major dents, deformations, or deep scratches.
• The wooden handles are securely mounted and show a charming, age-related texture without cracks.
• The interior chimney shows authentic soot traces from historical use. The object has deliberately not been polished to preserve its museum-like character in the original state for collectors.
