Paillard D8L, a Double 8 mm film camera, in good physical condition and tested to be in working order, dating to around 1940–1950.
Description from the seller
Important lot of vintage film equipment including a precision Swiss-made Paillard-Bolex camera, model D8L, marketed in the late 1950s. This collectible exemplar stands out for its remarkable state of conservation and upkeep.
Technical specifications and mechanical condition:
• Case and body: Aluminum alloy frame with an original black synthetic leather coating free of marks or major structural damage. The chrome-plated parts retain their original shine.
• Internal mechanism: The film loading compartment is perfectly sound, with no rust or residue buildup. The mechanical mainspring chronometer mechanism has been tested: winding is functional and the drive operates smoothly and steadily at all available speeds.
Optical configuration (D-Mount):
The triple-rotating turret is equipped with a uniform series of lenses from the Swiss manufacture Kern-Paillard, particularly sought after for their optical qualities:
1. Wide-angle lens: Kern-Paillard Pizar 5.5 mm f/1.9 AR.
2. Standard lens: Kern-Paillard Yvar 13 mm f/1.9 AR.
3. Telephoto lens: Kern-Paillard Yvar 36 mm f/2.8 AR.
Glass elements are clear, with no surface scratches or internal fungus proliferation. Focus and diaphragm selection rings operate smoothly.
Accessories and period documentation included:
• Ergonomic handle: Official Bolex Paillard detachable handle in brushed aluminum and molded bakelite with built-in trigger.
• Documentation: Original user manual in French. The booklet contains period handwritten annotations detailing exposure scales for Kodachrome films and black-and-white emulsions.
• Consumable: A metal receiving reel signed Canon Japan, loaded with Double 8 mm film.
A complete, intact set in perfect working order, ideal for collectors of optical instruments or practitioners of traditional film cinema.
