Replacing the 405, the Peugeot 406 was launched in 1995 and gained a remarkable boost in popularity thanks to the film Taxi in 1998. Earlier, in 1996, Peugeot had surprised everyone by unveiling a Coupe version at the Paris Motor Show! Designed in partnership with the Italian company Pininfarina (Ferrari Testarossa, Ferrari 308, Lancia 037, …), this coupe captivated the automotive world. It’s an opportunity to reconnect with the tradition of coupes lost since 1983. A proof that Peugeot was doing much better in this 1990s decade. Despite some criticism of its lack of sportiness, order books were full and the 406 Coupe was ultimately produced in over 107,000 units throughout its career, which ended in 2004.
