French Art Nouveau sculpture by Ernest Rancoulet, titled Étoile de la Mer, signed, in régule/spelter patinated with a wood base, measuring 16 cm wide, 39 cm high and 16 cm deep, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Ernest Rancoulet – “Étoile de la Mer” – French sculpture in régule patinated – late 19th / early 20th century
Description
Fascinating French decorative sculpture “Étoile de la Mer”, attributed to the production of Ernest Rancoulet, French sculptor active between the late 19th and the early 20th century.
The work depicts a young winged figure in motion, with one arm raised, placed above a large starfish, an element that directly recalls the title of the work.
The sculpture features a dark patina bronze-like finish and is mounted on a circular shaped base, which is in turn placed on a wooden plinth.
On the front there is the characteristic original metal plaque with inscription:
“ÉTOILE DE LA MER – Par Rancoulet”
The material appears plausibly régule/spelter patinated, a material widely used in French decorative sculpture of the period. It is therefore not presented as bronze.
Conditions: preserved in conditions compatible with age, with patina, oxidations, small signs, stains and surface wear. There is a small hole in the rear part of the head, clearly documented in the photographs. The wooden base also shows signs of time. Please carefully observe all photographs, which constitute an integral part of the description.
Interesting object of French decorative sculpture from the Belle Époque, particularly decorative and collectible.
