One-piece solid sterling silver sombrero miniature from Taxco, Mexico, made of .925 silver, dating to 1980–1990, with dimensions 8 cm high, 17 cm wide, 3 cm deep and weighing 152 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Splendid and important miniature Mexican hat for collection, crafted in solid 925 sterling silver in the famous city of Taxco between 1948 and 1979. The object stands out for its generous size (16 cm in diameter) and a substantial weight of no less than 152 grams, clearly higher than the classic remembrance miniatures of the era. The brim is finely engraved in bas-relief with the detailed glyphs of the Aztec Calendar (Sun Stone) and decorated with traditional geometric motifs. The edge is finished with a twisted rope work and features the classic decorative cord (barbiquejo) in silver resting on the brim. Authenticity hallmarks on the base: Official tax mark “Eagle 23” (National Mexican Eagle), identifying the historic workshop of Joaquín Tella / Talleres de los Ballesteros in Taxco. Circular hallmark “HECHO EN MEXICO / STERLING.” Purity mark “925.” Conditions: Excellent vintage condition. No dents or deep scratches. Retains the splendid original dark patina in the grooves of the engravings, which adds dimensionality to the design. Diameter: approx. 16 cm; Exact weight: 152 grams; Material: Sterling Silver 925.
