Bacher Tische design Tensegrity coffee table Modell 2054 (1986) with a 94.5 × 94.5 cm glass top, 39 cm high, weighing 40 kg, featuring matt chrome elements and steel cables, made in Germany and in good vintage condition with minor signs.
Description from the seller
Title:
Bacher Tische - A rarer high-tech tensegrity coffee table “Model 2054” (1986) - Glass & Chrome
Description:
Up for grabs is an absolutely rare design classic from the 1980s from a German premium manufactory: the tensegrity coffee table Model 2054 by Bacher Tische, from 1986.
This model captivates with its strictly geometric, architectural construction based on the physical tensegrity principle. The frame consists of four square-aligned, 15 mm thick, matt-chromed steel tubes. They do not touch each other, but are stabilized exclusively by wire cables under extreme tension. This creates the optical illusion of a sculpture floating in space.
The object was purchased in 1986 at the renowned high-end furniture store “forum,” which specialized in avant-garde design furniture (Original purchase price: 1,090 DM).
Details & Condition:
• Manufacturer: Bacher Tische (Germany)
• Model: 2054
• Year of manufacture: 1986
• Dimensions: 94.5 x 94.5 cm (square glass top, 1.5 cm thick, with elegantly rounded corners)
• Material: Crystal glass, matte and glossy chrome elements, steel cables
• Condition: Very good, age-appropriate vintage condition. The structure and tension cables are absolutely stable and taut. The chrome has a dull shine. On the heavy glass top there are only two tiny, superficial scratches that are hardly noticeable in everyday use (see close-up photos).
• Provenance: The original purchase invoice from 1986 is available and will be handed over to the buyer as an authenticity certificate.
An outstanding piece of minimalist German furniture craftsmanship, perfect for collectors of Mid-Century Modern and 80s high-tech interiors.
Private sale with no warranty.
Shipping only if the buyer arranges the shipping themselves, e.g., via a furniture shipping service.
