Description from the seller
Antique 6-piece Sterling Silver Manicure Set in Original Case – Birmingham 1917, Synyer & Beddoes
Description
An exceptionally charming and unusually complete 6-piece antique dressing-table/manicure set, crafted in first-grade sterling silver (.925) and housed in the original, green velvet and ivory silk-lined case.
The set was made in 1917 by the renowned Birmingham silversmiths Synyer & Beddoes (Harry Synyer & Charles Joseph Beddoes), famed for their refined small silverware and dressing-table fittings.
All silver handles and lids are richly decorated with an exquisitely fine machine-engraved guilloché – also known as barleycorn motif – subtly framed with a classic laurel wreath/rope border and featuring an unengraved cartouche. The steel parts of the scissors and instruments are of the acclaimed English Sheffield-made steel.
Contents of the case (6-piece):
Cuticle/ Nail Buffer: Oval sterling silver frame with handle and original leather/suede polishing pad.
Salve/ Powder Pot: Thick-walled cut crystal glass with a solid sterling silver screw-top.
