The especially popular amethyst from Uruguay can, however, usually be distinguished from its Brazilian relatives by the typically paler color, and in the case of the higher-quality amethyst, the color of the Uruguayan amethyst is overall darker and many times more intense. The majority of amethysts from Uruguay are mined in open pit, and thus require a multitude of steps to free them and to be cleaned in absolute perfection. Which makes such a piece many times more special for your home.
