Description from the seller
Extensive 45-piece dining and coffee service from the French manufacturer Sarreguemines in the well-known series “Obernai.”
The décor shows various traditional Alsatian village, landscape and everyday scenes based on designs by the Alsatian artist Henri Loux (1873–1907). The different figurative motifs are framed by the floral border typical for the series, with roses and blue blossoms.
Particularly attractive is the large selection of different motifs as well as the sizable stock of 13 identical flat dinner plates.
The service comprises a total of 45 pieces:
- 13 flat dinner plates
- 5 deep plates / soup plates
- 3 smaller plates / dessert plates
- 5 small bowls / compote bowls
- 5 cups
- 7 saucers
- 1 coffee pot with lid
- 1 sugar bowl with lid
- 1 milk jug
- 1 sauce boat with underplate
- 1 large round serving plate
- 1 large rectangular serving plate
- 1 oval serving/side dish
The pieces bear the backmark “Sarreguemines – France – Obernai” as well as the note “Décor garanti inaltérable et résistant au lave-vaisselle / Dishwasher proof.”
The manufacture is estimated to date to the 1970s.
The service is in good used condition with signs of age and wear. The glazes and the colored decors are, overall, nicely preserved. Due to the age, individual pieces may show slight discolorations, superficial signs of wear, or minor age-related irregularities. The exact condition is documented in the numerous photos; these are part of the description.
A decorative and extensive Sarreguemines-Obernai service, interesting both for use and for collectors, or to complete an existing Obernai service.
