Pair of solid silver salt cellars in 950‰ argent on a Paris-made neo-Renaissance / troubadour gilt, designed by Labat & Pugibet, with verre crystal inserts, dimensions 4 x 6 x 4 cm and a net silver weight of 19.05 g per piece (38.10 g total).
Description from the seller
Labat & Pugibet – Pair of solid silver salt cellars 950‰, Minerve 1st title, Paris circa 1880–1897
Description:
Beautiful pair of French solid silver salt cellars 950‰, made in Paris by the silversmiths Labat & Pugibet, active from 1877 to 1897.
The mounts are finely pierced and chased in a rich Neo-Renaissance / troubadour style, consisting of scrolling foliate motifs, grotesques, fantastical mascarons and small hanging elements. Each saleron rests on three small pierced feet.
Both pieces retain their glass/crystal verrines, perfectly fitted to the mounts.
The visible hallmarks include:
Minerve 1er titre, French assay for silver 950‰;
maker’s mark L & P, with the shoemaker’s awl, attributed to Labat & Pugibet.
Net silver weight: 19.05 g per saleron, i.e. 38.10 g of 950‰ solid silver in total, excluding verrines.
Fine silver weight: approximately 36.20 g.
Overall Very satisfactory condition for late 19th-century pieces, with signs of use and light patina appropriate to age. Decor well preserved and highly legible. The verrines are present; their exact condition is visible in the photographs.
Beautiful pair of antique Parisian silverware, interesting for its identified silversmith, its particularly rich decoration, and its preservation with the two glass/crystal inserts.
