Italian wooden corner cabinet with walnut veneer in Louis XV/Rococo style, dating to 1940–1950, in good used condition with age-related marks, measuring 80 cm high by 71 cm wide and 51 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Important and antique corner cabinet from the 18th century, historically linked to the encoignure type, or parade corner cabinet, designed to embellish the corners of formal rooms. The piece presents aesthetic characteristics of Louis XV / Baroque style, with flowing, sinuous lines and fine woodwork. Exquisite work in walnut veneer and inlayed with burl walnut and blond walnut. On the top surface, the grain is arranged in a mirrored fashion, creating an elegant geometric pattern, particularly decorative. The serpentine front and bulging body follow the shape of the two stacked drawers. It has three slender, animal-leg-type cabriole legs (zampa d’animale ungolato) ending in distinctive goat hoof feet, a hallmark of the eighteenth-century taste. The two drawers are embellished with period decorative bronze/brass masks that include the keyhole opening. The ornaments are pierced with rocaille motifs and central masques typical of French 18th century or its 19th-century revival, an elaborated design characteristic of Rococo / Louis XV style, decorated with asymmetrical scrolls, foliage, and a humanoid figure (a mascaron or carved face) at the top of each plate. Keyhole functioning with careful attention.
The furniture is in excellent overall condition. Over its life it has undergone a careful conservative restoration, which also affected the lower back panel and the drawer locking mechanisms, preserving its appearance and functionality, to consolidate the structure and revive the beauty of the wood, while maintaining its natural patina.
