A beautiful and substantial specimen of an original Japanese Sōsaku (creative) Kokeshi doll, handmade by the highly regarded kokeshi master Seifu Gono (郷野清風). With an impressive height of 31 cm, this is a rarer and highly sought-after size among collectors.
The doll shows Gono’s iconic signature style: an elegant, glossy deep-black okappa hairstyle (bob-line) that beautifully contrasts with the deep-red kimono. The cylindrical torso is artistically carved and hand-painted with floral motifs (vines and blossoms), giving the doll a rich, layered texture.

Condition:
The doll is in a beautiful, authentic vintage state. As is common with wooden folk art of this age, there are light, superficial signs of use (such as small scratches/dings in the lacquer).
