A beautiful large (42 cm !!!!) and authentic vintage Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi doll, designed and handmade by the well-known and repeatedly award-winning Japanese craftsman Toa Sekiguchi.
This particular doll is a wonderful example of modern Japanese folk art.
The design is characterized by the minimalist, streamlined form of the wood, the iconic wooden knob on the head, and the graceful, hand-painted bright red camellias (Tsubaki) on the body. The camellia flower symbolizes perfection and the approaching spring in Japanese culture.
On the underside, the doll bears the official red artist’s seal (hanko) of 関口東亜 (Sekiguchi Toa), which fully guarantees the authenticity of this collector’s item.

In very good vintage condition. The wood has a beautiful, warm patina and the colors of the painting are still very vibrant. See the photos for an accurate impression.
