Description from the seller
Splendid and detailed Italian figurative porcelain sculpture in multi-colored Capodimonte porcelain, depicting an elderly fisherman mending his nets. The work belongs to the tradition of Capodimonte artistic Italian porcelains, highly appreciated in the mid-to-late 20th century for its narrative richness, expressiveness of the characters, and meticulous detailing. The fisherman is depicted seated on a group of rocks, barefoot, as he patiently works on the fishing net. The face, strongly characterized, shows an especially accurate rendering of wrinkles, the beard, and the gaze. The clothing, hands, and feet are also modeled with great naturalistic attention. The composition is enriched by numerous details: real wire net, shells, stones, marine vegetation, and small accessories related to the fisherman’s trade, which give the scene considerable realism. The decoration is executed in natural and delicate tones, predominantly matte, typical of Capodimonte figurative production of the second half of the 20th century. On the front part of the base there is a handwritten signature legible as “Rori.” On the back there is also the blue mark with the crowned “N,” traditionally associated with Capodimonte artistic porcelain production. The porcelain figure and elements are overall very well preserved.
