Natural Morocops ovatus trilobite specimen from the Middle Devonian of Morocco, with a 6.5 cm body length (over 7 cm extended) and a 10 cm width in matrix, treated by jetting technique and accompanied by an acrylic L-support; authenticity is original.
Description from the seller
In this lot we offer trilobites of good size, of the species Morocops Ovatus, in matrix (full size of the piece 10 cm).
The body of the trilobite measures 6.5 cm; extended, it would measure more than 7 cm.
Completely natural and very well preserved, some wear on the pygidium, natural shine, no painting.
Good overall eye quality.
Worked using an air-abrasion/jet blasting technique, it is a good piece, "very pleasant when you hold it and observe it."
Originates from the Oufaten mountains, near Taharajat, province of Errachidia (Morocco).
Middle Devonian period, Emsian–Eifelian ages.
Morocops sp. is a genus in the family Phacopidae; there are several representatives of this genus.
Often the anatomical differences between species can be very subtle and only the most attentive observers can distinguish them; in the case of (M. Ovatus) compared to another representative of the genus (M. Granulops), a notable difference would be the row of ovoid tubercles along the thorax, specifically at the contact between the axial rings and the pleural segments; these tubercles are clearly distinguished in M. Ovatus, hence its name, subtler in M. Granulops.
"This specimen is accompanied by an L-shaped acrylic stand for display as a gift"
