Ernest and Charles Schneider grew up in Nancy. In 1903 Ernest Schneider was hired by the commercial management of the Daum Frères factory. He had his younger brother Charles, trained in sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in Nancy and then in Paris, propose projects for vases and glass pastes. This collaboration lasted until 1911.

They founded their own company, Verreries Schneider, in Épinay-sur-Seine in 1913. The company’s success was confirmed after the end of hostilities in 1918. By 1925 it employed as many as five hundred staff and sold its creations worldwide.

After 1918, however, Charles Schneider quickly became the sole maker of the pieces. Gradually he left Art Nouveau and developed a very personal genre, characterized by bright, bold, contrasting colors and naturalistic and stylized motifs, which perfectly symbolized the Art Deco style of the interwar period.

The glass market, however, was seriously hit by the Great Depression of 1929 and led in 1938 to the bankruptcy of the Schneider brothers' company.
