This object is an iconic vintage rattan or pitrieten reading basket in the shape of a frog, designed by or attributed to the French designer Olivier Cajan. This playful and distinctive design hails from the 1960s or 1970s and is today a beloved mid-century design object.
The woven basket has a large, open mouth into which magazines, newspapers, or books can be stored. Often the distinctive eyes are made from colored plastic wire (such as scoubidou) or glass marbles.
