TYBVR sive TIVOLI, a map of Lazio in Italy, by Joab Blaeu (designer and cartographer) with Pierre Mortier (publisher), copper engraving with later hand colouring, 420 × 520 mm, good condition, published in the Nouveau théâtre d'Italie.
Description from the seller
Original copper engraving in etching and burin, based on the famous drawings by the Dutch cartographer Joan Blaeu and published in Amsterdam in the early 18th century (circa 1704-1710) by the publisher Pierre Mortier within the prestigious Nouveau théâtre d'Italie.
The specimen stands out for its magnificent hand-applied watercolor colorization that gives great depth and warmth to the composition, highlighting the complex structure of the cliff, the architecture of the ancient city, and the distinctive cloud formations in the sky. At the top center there is the bilingual title "TYBVR sive TIVOLI".
Present the usual original vertical center fold from the binding
Wide and diffuse water stains of brown-reddish/amber color are observed, particularly evident along the lower corners (outside the copper plate margin)
