Bronze ring with a four-lobed floral bezel, 16 mm inner diameter and a total weight of 3.12 g, dating to the 11th–13th century AD with a dark green patina, provenance from a private collection and acquired in 2004 in Vienna; origin Germany.
Description from the seller
The bezel of this ring shows a four-lobed or petal floral design, clearly defined by deep grooves that converge at the center.
This type of motif is characteristic of medieval metalwork, where geometric and vegetal forms are stylized to symbolize fertility, protection and balance • Form: quadrifoliate or clover, with marked volume and axial symmetry.
Material: bronze with a dark green patina, the result of the metal's natural oxidation.
The quadrifoliate motif was common on personal protection objects, such as rings or brooches, associated with the idea of good fortune and cosmic harmony.
Origin: Germany
Date: 11th to 13th centuries AD
Condition: Excellent, see photo.
