MANIFATTURA GALLO (Florence) – 6-light chandelier in carved wood and wrought iron – Original electrical system

Description of the Object
6-point suspension chandelier from the Florentine manufactory Gallo (Classic Line). The piece stands out for the pairing of two materials handcraftedly worked:
- The vertical central shaft: In wood, fully turned and hand-carved with traditional acanthus leaf decorative motifs.
- The peripheral arms: In hot-worked wrought iron, decorated with metal leaf elements applied that wrap around the supporting structure and connect to the wooden shaft.
The two-tone finish is achieved by alternating silvered sections with details and structural elements finished in brass tones. This original color combination highlights the wood’s carvings and the iron forging.
Provenance and Traceability
The object comes from a private collection and features direct and certified provenance: it was handcrafted by a former worker of the Gallo manufactory, the owner’s uncle. This historical and family link attests to its authenticity and direct link to the period production of the Calenzano (Florence) company.
Condition and Patina
The chandelier is structurally intact in all wood and iron components. The surface shows a widespread patina of time, with natural wear on the metal finish (brass and silver) at the most prominent points of the carving and iron, revealing underlying preparation layers and the living wood. These characteristics document the piece’s age without altering its stability or aesthetics. The drop-cap style candle covers are original and show slight yellowing consistent with age.
Electrical System
The piece fully preserves its original electrical system from the period, integrated into the structure and arms. Correct operation of the original circuit has been successfully tested using a temporary two-tone external wiring (used for functional checks and subsequently removed). The system is fully functional and ready for installation with E14 small-base light bulbs.
