Description from the seller

Beautiful and rare secretary's inkwell in majolica ceramic – Mühlen & Leendertz / Adolph Rick Köln, ca. 1880-1900.

An important square-shaped desktop inkwell with an integrated pen holder, produced in glazed ceramic in majolica style. Historicist decoration in olive-green tones with honey/gold highlights. The front face features a striking high-relief lion mask, flanked by geometric friezes and textured classical ornamentation on the side panels. Removable top lid with a circular relief-decorated handle.

Base with the retailer's glaze stamp beneath the glaze: "Adolph Rick / Köln" and molded/incised model number "2635".

Overall in very good condition, minimal glaze flaking noted in the photos, and the original glass cup has two small flaws at the rim."

Seller's Story

Antiques are my enormous passion; all the items I have up for auction were found at antique fairs and from antique dealers mainly in the Lisbon area, but also from the rest of Portugal. Only pieces of good quality, distinctly original and obviously beautiful. Quality guarantee and very careful shipping of the pieces. ATTENTION: If you are interested in one of my pieces that has a reserve price, please note that I will absolutely not offer it for less than 80% of the reserve value of the piece. And I should also note that if that piece is not sold here on Catawiki, I will sell it at another auction house, so if you’re really interested in any of my pieces, buy it when you see it the first time. Thank you very much
