Description from the seller

Absolutely Fantastic vase with an archaistic-style lid in celadon jade – China, 19th / 20th century.

Chinese decorative vase with lid, entirely carved in jade (nephrite) of a light celadon green tone with patina and natural brownish oxidation veins. Archaising design inspired by ancient ritual bronzes. The lid is crowned by a detailed three-dimensional sculpture of a Fu Dog (guardian lion) and features a side handle with a small movable ring. The oval flattened body displays symmetrical reliefs with the Taotie mask motif and a vertical pattern of banana-leaf leaves on the neck. Flanked by two handles in the shape of heads of mythical creatures, each holding a loose functional ring. The interior is manually hollowed with visible marks of traditional manufacture. Smooth oval base with no marks.

Excellent condition. The piece is morphologically complete, preserving all original loose rings intact and functional.

29.0 cm × 15.0 cm × 8.0 cm.

Seller's Story

Antiques are my enormous passion; all the items I have up for auction were found at antique fairs and from antique dealers mainly in the Lisbon area, but also from the rest of Portugal. Only pieces of good quality, distinctly original and obviously beautiful. Quality guarantee and very careful shipping of the pieces. ATTENTION: If you are interested in one of my pieces that has a reserve price, please note that I will absolutely not offer it for less than 80% of the reserve value of the piece. And I should also note that if that piece is not sold here on Catawiki, I will sell it at another auction house, so if you’re really interested in any of my pieces, buy it when you see it the first time. Thank you very much
