Description from the seller

Exquisite French Rosewood Coffee Table with Floral Marquetry by J.P. Ehalt – Neoclassical Elegance, c. 1960–1970

A Masterpiece of Mid-Century French Cabinetmaking

This stunning coffee table is a exceptional example of French neoclassical craftsmanship, attributed to the esteemed ébéniste J.P. Ehalt (Jean-Pierre Ehalt). Created in France circa 1960–1970, this piece embodies the timeless sophistication of the Louis XVI style, reinterpreted with the luxurious materials and impeccable execution characteristic of the finest 20th-century ateliers.

Design & Artistry

The table centers on a magnificent oval top, a virtuoso display of rosewood marquetry. The radiant composition unfolds in a geometric diamond pattern, anchored by an elaborate central medallion featuring a stylized floral bouquet in carefully selected contrasting veneers. This intricate inlay work is framed by the spectacular natural flame figure of the golden-hued rosewood, all preserved under a brilliant high-gloss finish that illuminates every detail.

The opulence continues below:

Frieze: Elegantly decorated with a repeating register of oval medallions, framed by patinated bronze mounts and delicate foliate reliefs at each junction.

Base: Tapering, fluted legs in the neoclassical tradition, terminating in fine gilt bronze (ormolu) sabots adorned with pearl and stylized leaf motifs.

Condition & Authenticity

Presented in very good vintage condition. The marquetry remains in excellent shape, with rich color and crisp detail. Minor surface wear consistent with age and gentle use is present along the table edge, legs, and on the top (see images). The structure is solid and stable, with no structural defects.

This is a piece suited for the most refined interiors—whether a classic salon, an elegantly appointed living room, or an eclectic space seeking a distinctive decorative anchor. Signed J.P. Ehalt.
