Description from the seller
French Art Deco chandelier with signed glasses by Muller Frères Lunéville – wrought iron & pressed glass, circa 1925–1930
An extraordinary French Art Deco chandelier from the period around 1925–1930. The five-light ceiling lamp artfully combines forged iron with warm-toned, geometrically structured pressed glass and vividly embodies the elegant design language of French Art Deco.
The distinctive square construction, the finely worked forged details, and the harmonious interaction of the different glass elements give the luminaire a representative and at the same time timelessly elegant appearance.
The characteristic square frame is made of finely forged iron. Delicate cutwork on the sides, decorative forged elements, and the stylized suspension testify to the craftsmanship and the design ambition of this era.
The iron has been gently freed from older rust traces and properly sealed with linseed oil. This preserved the metal’s original character with its dark, matte surface. At individual spots, a very small amount of surface rust remains visible, underscoring the authentic patina of the historic object.
The centerpiece is a generous, hemispherical glass bowl made of matte, amber-to-pink tinted molded glass. The geometric relief decor creates an appealing interplay of light, color, and texture.
The four outer glass shades are made of pressed glass and bear the Muller Frères Lunéville signature (see detail photos). The large central glass bowl is unsigned, as is commonly the case for such lamps.
The combination of geometrically designed pressed glass and the dark wrought iron frame gives the chandelier its characteristic Art Deco aesthetic.
Good, age-appropriate vintage condition with authentic patina and typical signs of use.
The lamp has been properly re-wired.
There is a very small chip on the large central glass bowl and on two of the small shades, visible in the last detail photos.
One small original screw is missing from the iron mounting, and two small screws to hold one of the four lamp shades are missing (see detail photos); however, these can be replaced with visually very similar screws. Suitable replacement screws are included, allowing the lamp to be fully mounted.
