-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition:

The recorder is in excellent condition and shows hardly any signs of use.
Only the labeling on the head housing shows slight deterioration, the large 2-track has been supplemented.
The unit was sparingly used by the first owner before coming into our hands.
Our own technical service has given the unit a full major service where all knobs and switches were cleaned ultrasonically.
There is no squeak, crack, or rattle here; the unit is utterly silent.
The Philips has been extensively tested and measured.
All factory specifications are more than met.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description:

A very luxuriously built, Vienna-developed, lovingly and exceptionally solidly constructed hi-fi unit from the last professional line of tape decks Philips built in Austria.
With the approaching advent of CDs, analog recorder builders were forced to push the envelope regarding signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range.
The N-4522 reflects what was technically feasible at the time.
Equipped with 38 cm/s recording speed, this reel-to-reel tape deck still presents an excellent figure even today.
During the demonstration tape recording there was no audible difference between source and tape.

Philips also built a 4-track version, the widely praised N-4520.
The 2-track version offered here is regarded as the professional studio model.

The last 5 photos are scans of a test that was published in the German Audio, April 1980 issue.
The always thorough German testers put the N-4522 under the spotlight and compared it with the (made in Germany) ASC-6002, the then standard for sound quality.
The Philips is well reviewed and described as a "machine trimmed for uncompromising good sound quality."
