Description from the seller
Silvered and vermeil liturgical ciborium from the 19th century
Elegant 19th-century liturgical ciborium, characterized by harmonious proportions and a rich decorative detailing with a classical taste, recently subjected to a thorough professional restoration.
The body features a refined alternation between the highly polished silver surfaces and the warm vermeil gilding of the cup. The interior is also fully gilded and appears particularly bright. The contrast between silver and gold strongly enhances the object's architecture and emphasizes its liturgical purpose.
The ciborium rests on a broad convex circular foot, enriched along the perimeter by a finely worked band with repeated ornamental motifs. The central knot, slender and elegant, is decorated with a succession of small embossed floral motifs. Similar decorations run along the body and the lid, creating a pleasant stylistic continuity.
Particularly beautiful is the hemispheric cup, gilded both outside and inside, closed by an important stepped and domed lid. The summit is completed by the traditional gilded apex cross, an element that adds further verticality and solemnity to the whole.
The object has been entirely restored by specialized Brescia artisans in the restoration of liturgical objects, with professional restoration of the silver plating and vermeil gilding. The result is striking: the surfaces are bright, uniform, and once again capable of highlighting the richness of the decorative work.
A beautiful example of nineteenth-century sacred art, interesting both for the collector of liturgical objects and as a refined decorative element.
Dimensions: overall height 22.5 cm; maximum width about 9.2 cm; cup diameter 9 cm; foot diameter 9 cm.
Interior design tips
Beyond its original liturgical function, this ciborium has a notable decorative presence. The contrast between glossy silver and gold makes it particularly suitable for classic, neoclassical, and eclectic interiors: it can be showcased on an antique console, inside a display cabinet, on a secretary, or atop a small dark wood cabinet. Also very interesting is its insertion into a contemporary, minimalist setting, where it can become a refined sculptural object and create an elegant contrast between old and new. An interior designer could also place it within a composition of sacred art objects, antique silverware, and vintage books.
Photos are an integral part of the description and show in detail the condition, decorations, and the brilliance of the surfaces.
