AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Canon Reflex 500mm F8 S.S.C.
Serial Number:
10836
Thank you very much for viewing this classic Canon FD super-telephoto lens.
Introduced in September 1978, the Canon Reflex 500mm F8 S.S.C. is a compact 500mm super-telephoto lens using a catadioptric mirror optical system.
By folding the optical path through its reflecting design, Canon was able to make this 500mm lens considerably shorter and lighter than a conventional refractive super-telephoto lens. Its aperture is fixed at F8 because of the mirror-based optical construction, with exposure controlled through shutter speed and film sensitivity rather than an adjustable diaphragm.
The long 500mm focal length makes it particularly useful for distant subjects, wildlife, outdoor sports, landscapes, and other situations where strong telephoto reach is required. It is also an interesting and distinctive lens from Canon's classic FD era.
■ Appearance
The lens shows some normal signs of age and surface wear.
Considering its age, the exterior remains clean and in very good overall condition.
Please check the photographs carefully for the detailed exterior condition.
■ Optics
There is only a small amount of fine dust visible inside the optical system.
Apart from this, the optics remain clear overall and are in good condition for their age.
■ Functional
The lens is operating properly.
Focusing and the basic mechanical operation were checked during inspection, with no functional problems found.
Please note that this reflex lens has a fixed F8 aperture and does not use a conventional adjustable diaphragm.

Thank you very much for taking the time to view this classic Canon lens.
The Reflex 500mm F8 S.S.C. combines genuine 500mm super-telephoto reach with the compact dimensions made possible by its mirror optical design, making it a distinctive alternative to much larger conventional telephoto lenses.
This example shows some age-related exterior wear but remains clean overall for a lens of this vintage. The optics contain only a small amount of fine dust and remain clear overall, while focusing and the basic mechanical operation are functioning properly.
It is an appealing lens both for practical long-distance photography with the Canon FD system and for collectors of distinctive classic Canon optics.
