Stilart Italian chair from the 1960s–1970s, turned wood and black lacquer with decorative gold panels, in Art Nouveau style, with a height of 99 cm, width 35 cm and depth 35 cm, in good used condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
This singular Italian chair by Stilart, produced during the 1960s and 1970s, constitutes a refined reinterpretation of the modernist language and of the orientalist decorative tradition so highly valued in postwar Italian design. Made of turned wood and lacquered in glossy black, it stands out for its slender vertical silhouette, composed of finely molded vertical supports and slender legs that impart visual lightness and sculptural elegance.
The high, narrow backrest features a structure of turned spindles crowned with ornamental terminals that evoke stylized vegetal forms, while its central part incorporates a decorative trapezoidal panel with a lacquered scene in golden tones on a black background. This ornamental work, inspired by Oriental landscapes and executed with great detail, interacts with the circular medallion decorating the seat, where a floral composition in delicate gold tones provides aesthetic continuity to the whole.
The combination of the deep black of the lacquer with the gold decorations creates an appealing contrast that recalls both the Japanese tradition exported to Europe and the modernist and eclectic reinterpretations developed by Italian designers in the mid-20th century. The turned elements, the sinuous lines, and the presence of natural motifs reflect the influence of Art Nouveau reinterpreted from a more contemporary and decorative sensibility.
A piece with strong scenographic character, this chair transcends its utilitarian function to become a decorative element capable of bringing personality to a living room, bedroom, or reading nook. Its sophisticated and uncommon aesthetics place it among the most interesting examples of Italian decorative design from the 1960s and 1970s, when firms like Stilart explored the fusion of traditional craftsmanship, historical influences, and modern trends.
Shipped with certification and good packaging.
