Pair of French two side tables in a modern mid-century style, featuring a warm mahogany veneered wooden base, brass turned columns and a smoked glass top, dating to 1970–1980 and in good condition with some signs of use.
Description from the seller
Pair of designer side tables made in the second half of the 20th century, conceived as an elegant reinterpretation of the French neoclassical models inspired by the Louis XVI style. Their structure combines noble wood, gilt brass and glass, achieving a refined balance between decorative tradition and the sophisticated aesthetic characteristic of quality furniture produced during the last third of the past century.
Each table features a solid square base veneered in warm-toned mahogany, decorated with meticulous geometric marquetry that frames a central medallion of classical inspiration. This ornamental motif, placed at the center of the lower top, evokes the refined cabinetmaking of the 18th century and adds visual depth to the ensemble. The presence of contrasting inlays and the symmetrical arrangement of the grain reinforce the distinguished character of the composition.
Four cylindrical turned brass columns rise from the base to support the beveled-edge smoked glass top. These columns, inspired by classical architectural forms, recall the fluted supports found in the Louis XVI repertoire, though reinterpreted with cleaner lines and contemporary materials. The circular brass finials contribute to the sense of balance and elegance.
The glass top provides visual lightness and allows the decorative richness of the lower marquetry to be appreciated at all times, making this a standout element of the design. The contrast between the transparency of the glass, the golden shine of the brass, and the warmth of the wood creates a particularly attractive combination, ideal for classic, neoclassical, or Hollywood Regency-inspired interiors.
This is a versatile and decorative pair, perfect as side or corner tables, distinguished by the quality of materials, the harmony of proportions, and the successful fusion between the aesthetic legacy of 18th-century France and the decorative design of the second half of the 20th century.
Certified shipment and careful packaging.
