Description from the seller

Filigree reliquary – Holy Crown of Thorns – 19th century – Italy

Elegant reliquary of devotion in silver filigree, featuring a remarkable radiating mount entirely made of delicate metal threads worked into spirals and curls.

At the center, under glass, a decoration of paper cut-outs (paperolles) and gilded and polychrome papers surrounds a small relic held at the heart of a floral composition. The handwritten inscription “S. Spina D.N.J.C.”, an abbreviation of Sancta Spina Domini Nostri Jesu Christi, i.e. Holy Crown of Thorns of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The back retains its red-brown wax seal, pierced by the sealing red threads. This ensemble constitutes an interesting element attesting that the reliquary compartment was closed and sealed. An old inventory number is also visible on the back.

Very fine filigree work, particularly airy, giving the reliquary the appearance of a large rose window.

Condition: good antique condition, with patina, small irregularities and signs of use consistent with age. Ancient sealing present on the back.

The photos are an integral part of the object description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.

The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with tracking number to ensure quick and secure delivery.

Happy bidding

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns the reliquary only as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
