Description from the seller

Reliquary of the Holy Sepulchre – Italy, 19th century

The architected mount in alloy (gilded bronze) and entirely openwork presents a rich Baroque decoration of relief angels, scrolls and foliage, organized around a central theca.
The ensemble, resting on four feet with scrolls and surmounted by a cross, is punctuated by red and green glass cabochons, bringing a remarkable polychromy to the gilded decoration.

The central theca contains a reliquary placed on a textile background and accompanied by its handwritten titulus: « Sepulcro D.N.J.C. » namely Sepulcrum Domini Nostri Jesu Christi: of the Sepulchre of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

On the reverse, the theca retains its ecclesiastical red wax seal, still in place.

A very beautiful example of Italian Baroque reliquary, remarkable for the richness of its mount, its abundant angelic decoration and the quality of its execution.

Wear and minor old alterations in keeping with age and use.

The photographs are an integral part of the description of the objects and complete its presentation. They allow you to appreciate its condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any bid

The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.

Happy bidding

In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred art object. The relics it contains are not the subject of the transaction, but are included gratuitously for their historical and cultural value.
