Agnus Dei en cire – Pontificat de Jean XXIII – Saint Charles Borromée

Rare médaillon d’Agnus Dei en cire bénite, réalisé sous le pontificat du pape Jean XXIII (Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, 1958-1963).

De forme ovale, il présente sur une face l’effigie en relief du souverain pontife Jean XXIII, entourée d’une inscription latine.

L’autre face représente saint Charles Borromée, figuré en cardinal, en prière devant un crucifix. L’inscription périphérique fait référence au saint.

La fiche ancienne accompagnant le médaillon porte notamment les mentions :

« ECCE AGNUS DEI QUI TOLLIT PECCATA MUNDI »
« IOANNES XXIII – PONT. MAX. – ANN. I »
« S. CAROLUS BORROMAEUS »

La mention ANN. I (« première année ») permet de rattacher cet Agnus Dei au début du pontificat de Jean XXIII, élu pape en octobre 1958, soit 1958-1959.
