Description from the seller
An elegant and rare antique French earthenware (faience) oil and vinegar cruet set (porte-huilier-vinaigrier), Attributed to the renowned manufacturer Keller & Guérin (K&G) Lunéville. See intertwined mark on the bottom of the cruet set holder. A minor loss (1 cm x 1 cm) on the bottom of the cruet set holder (see photo nr. 18).
Impressed numeral and maker's stamps underneath the cruet bottles.
Dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century (circa 1890–1910).
This exquisite table set features the iconic and highly collectible "Old Strasbourg" or "Réverbère" floral design, beautifully decorated with hand-painted tulips, and botanical bouquets in vibrant polychrome colors. The wavy rims are accentuated with a delicate pink trim.
Each jug is traditionally hand-lettered on the neck: "H" for Huile (Oil) and "V" for Vinaigre (Vinegar).
The design reflects the enduring influence of the French Louis XV Rococo revival style, a decorative aesthetic that enjoyed great popularity in the ceramics produced in Lunéville during the second half of the nineteenth century. Particularly attractive are the pierced architectural holders and the elegant baluster-shaped cruets with their finely formed handles and pouring spouts.
Lunéville faience has been highly regarded since the eighteenth century and remains sought after by collectors of French decorative arts. This huilier-vinaigrier is both a practical table accessory and an attractive display piece that evokes the refinement of the French dining tradition.
