A substantial display piece featuring white apophyllite crystals with peach-coloured Stilbite from the Deccan Traps in India, mounted on a dark wood and steel base, measuring 280 × 150 × 130 mm and weighing 2902 g.
Description from the seller
A chromatic dialogue between white crystals and peach-colored aggregates on a custom base. — This lot features an imposing and scenographic crystalline aggregate of Apophyllite and Stilbite, originating from the famous Deccan Traps deposits in India. The specimen is expertly mounted on a customized dark wood and steel base, which enhances its sculptural nature and transforms it into a natural art object, ready for display. Direct observation of the sample reveals a fascinating dialogue between two mineralogical species distinguished by crystal habit and color. Apophyllite appears in sizeable crystals with a well-defined pseudo-cubic shape and wide, brilliant faces. Their luster is distinctly vitreous, and the color ranges from milky white to a delicate translucence that allows light to penetrate, creating suggestive internal refractions. These crystals form the main scaffolding of the composition, giving it structure and geometric solidity. Nestled among the volumes of Apophyllite, Stilbite introduces an element of softness and a vibrant chromatic contrast. It presents itself in lamellar aggregates, known as combs, with the characteristic peach-orange color. Its luster, more subdued and almost pearly, catches the light differently, adding depth and warmth to the whole. The arrangement of Stilbite, seemingly flowing into the interstices left by the larger crystals, gives a sense of movement and organic growth to the matrix. Geologically, this association is a classic example of mineralization that occurred inside ancient gas bubbles (vesicles) in basaltic rocks. Millions of years ago, the lava flows that formed the Deccan plateau trapped cavities within them. Subsequently, hydrothermal solutions rich in silicates, calcium, and other elements percolated through these rocks, slowly depositing the minerals and giving rise to these magnificent crystallizations, protected inside geodes. For its significant size, the quality of the crystals, and the harmonious mineralogical pairing, this specimen qualifies both as a high-level collectible and as a sophisticated decorative element. Its presence is ideal for enriching a library, a professional study, or a design environment, where it can be admired as an authentic fragment of nature’s creative power, a piece of contemporary Wunderkammer.
