Description from the seller
Beautiful gilded-brass devotional triptych, dating from the 19th century, designed as a small domestic or travel altar.
At the center lies a hand-painted porcelain plaque in polychromy, depicting the Descent from the Cross. Christ is depicted at the moment his body is lowered from the cross, surrounded by the Virgin and several figures. The painting stands out for the finesse of the faces, the modelling of the flesh tones, and the richness of the colors.
The plaque is set into a curved mount topped by a cross.
Two hinged panels allow the triptych to be fully closed. They are adorned with engraved oval medallions surrounded by a knotted ribbon on a finely worked background.
On the reverse, the object has a folding easel allowing it to be displayed vertically, as well as a suspension ring.
The whole retains a beautiful antique patina: gilding wear, oxidations and time marks on the mount, perfectly visible in the photographs. The porcelain painting is in very good condition.
The photos are an integral part of the item description and complement its presentation. They allow the condition and features to be appreciated.
Please examine them carefully before placing any bid.
The object will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
Happy bidding.
