Description from the seller

Elegant portable reliquary of oval shape dating from the mid-19th century. The case is made of brass with refined beaded work along the inner molding and preserves the original top ring for hanging, which shows a slight and natural articulation play due to the era and use. The front part is protected by its old blown glass from the period.
On the red fabric base is applied the central brass structure with embossed decorations and radiating spokes, at whose center rests the cross that encloses the fragment of the Wood of the Holy Cross. In addition to the central cross, the interior of the reliquary is enriched along the sides by further elements and decorations in shaped brass that complete the composition. At the base lies the handwritten cartouche bearing the Latin inscription S. Crucis D.N.J.C..
The rear part is perfectly preserved and closed with the traditional red silk threads, held by a cardinal seal.
The object is in excellent period conservation condition. The brass presents a beautiful and uniform natural patina of time. Original cover glass, silk threads, and the wax seal are completely intact.
The reliquary does not contain human remains.

This object is offered exclusively for its historical, cultural, or decorative value. No religious relevance is claimed, implied, or supported.
