AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Refined and authentic antique box-frame with multiple orders of mouldings, dating to the first half of the 19th century (full Empire / Charles X period). The wooden structure features an elegant profile characterized by deep recesses and grooves alternating with moulding, creating an extraordinary play of light and shadow.

The gilding is strictly original to the period, executed in guazzo on red bole, visible at points of natural wear and edge chipping.

The surface shows a splendid patina of time with the typical and very fine craquelure of the plaster preparation. The back in solid wood preserves a wonderful dark oxidation patina and old traces of period lining paper. A high-quality antiquarian piece, ideal for housing antique paintings or mercury mirrors.
