Antique solid walnut display cabinet from Veneto, Italy, dating to 1850–1900, with three glazed doors, adjustable shelves, ornate hand carving, three lower drawers, and a locking mechanism with the original key; dimensions 252 cm high, 135 cm wide, 52 cm deep, in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Majestic and imposing display-bookcase of Italian manufacture (Venice) with three doors in solid walnut wood and veneer, dating from the late 19th century (1880-1900, full Umbertine / Italian Neo-Renaissance period). The piece stands out for its moved architectural structure, elegantly proportioned, ideal both as a study bookshelf and as a showroom display cabinet for prestigious rooms.
The front is divided into three compartments with glass doors. The central door, larger and with a full semi-circular arched top profile, is flanked by two narrower lateral doors that follow the same sinuous line. The glass allows perfect visibility of the interior shelves (spacious and height-adjustable).
The cabinet is richly hand-decorated. The side twisted columns and the spectacular central friezes entirely carved with phytomorphic cascading motifs (leaves, fruits, and classically inspired decorations) stand out. The upper cornice features multi-level moulding with a central carved frieze in floral motifs.
The lower part houses three wide drawers enriched with raised geometric insets and splendid central “mascheroni” (mask-like) carvings that serve as decoration for the vents (or apertures) and knobs. The furniture rests firmly on front bulbous feet, typical of 19th-century Italian cabinetmaking.
The piece is in good overall aesthetic condition, solid and structurally intact. It shows normal, light signs of wear due to time and age (small superficial finish wear and patina that attest to its authenticity). Locks and hardware are period-appropriate.
The lock can still be used with the original key.
Height: 2 m 52 cm
Width: 1 m 35 cm
Depth: 52 cm
Pickup is exclusively at the buyer’s expense (or via a courier chosen and paid for by the buyer, in the city of Rome, southern area, specifically between the Eur and Ostia districts).
The cabinet is located on the ground floor of a villa with a garden; there are only three steps to go outside. It is possible to enter the property with a van to get very close to the residence.
