Description from the seller
Grammont telephone, model 1924, France, 1920s
Antique French table telephone from the Grammont brand of Paris, labeled on the plate at the bottom as "Appareil mobile B.C.I. Mod. 1924". The plate also mentions "Marché du 25 mars 1927, Lot n° 31" and the manufacturer's address, 10 rue d'Uzès, Paris. The unit has a black lacquered, dome-shaped base with a candelabra-like column, on which the handset rests in a nickel-plated fork. The rotary dial is made of clear glass with white figures and red letters, with a printed card in the center showing emergency numbers such as 17 for police and 18 for fire brigade. The black handset and the detachable receiver are connected by original cables wrapped in fabric. The underside is finished with green felt.
The operation of the telephone has not been tested.
The phone is in used, antique condition, appropriate to its age. The black lacquer shows light wear and signs of use, the nickel-plated metal has an authentic patina, and the textile cords are worn and used. The underside felt is discolored.
This Grammont telephone, with its typically French interwar design and the preserved plates with manufacturing details, is an attractive collectible for enthusiasts of antique phones and early communication technology.
