Italian wooden frame with stucco and gilded finish, 19th century in a neoclassical/Empire style dating from about 1800–1900.
Description from the seller
Important antique wooden frame with gold leaf – Italy, 19th century (Empire / Charles X era)
Splendid and elegant Italian antique frame dating to the first half of the 19th century (early 1800s). The structure is entirely made of solid wood, enriched on the front with a superb continuous ornamental repertoire in stucco/paste finely worked in relief.
The frontal decor, of neoclassical and Empire taste, stands out for a rich central panel adorned with continuous vegetal motifs with acanthus leaves, garlands and floral elements.
The groove-shaped silhouette recedes toward the interior with a refined ovolo profile, designed to give extraordinary depth and light to the work.
The finish features a splendid gilding, preserving a magnificent patina of time capable of highlighting the contrasts between the glossy and matte parts of the reliefs.
The back shows the genuine and robust period construction, with corner joints reinforced by diagonal crosspieces (dowels) and nails typical of high, handmade 19th-century carpentry.
On the back some ancient pencil marks and a genuine patina of old wood are visible, testament to its authenticity and historicity.
A piece of furniture of great class and dramatic impact, ideal both to house important antique paintings and to be converted into a prestigious wall-mounted mirror cabinet.
Good overall structural and conservational condition.
The front is intact with minimal and natural signs of time consistent with the period.
External measurements: height 80 cm, width 70 cm
Internal measurements: height 57 cm, width 44 cm, thickness 6 cm.
