AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A fine Viking silver finger ring formed from a thick and wide sheet of silver, tapering towards the ends which coil into two passes around itself. The ring band has been decorated with a repeated geometric pattern, composed of triangular motifs with a central raised pellet. Pairs of such motif join at their apexes to form hourglass-like patterns at the front of the ring, whilst singular triangles feature on either side. The design is finished with a scalloped border above and below the patterns, along the edges. Some tarnishing and wear to the silver.

Both Viking men and women enjoyed wearing jewellery and other adornments as an indicator of wealth and social status. Jewellery would be owned and given to reinforce social hierarchies, or even repurposed as currency. However, jewellery served multiple purposes during the Viking era, not only as an indicator of the wearers’ wealth and social status, or as trading currency, but also as lucky charms in keeping the welfare of the body. It was believed that amulets and pendants gave a spiritual force that supported and protected the wearer.
