Guan lunar ceramic vase with craquelé glaze, Qing dynasty (1644–1911), circa 17th–19th century, of Chinese ancient culture, 16.6 cm high and 12.4 cm wide, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Guan lunar vase in ceramic with crackled glaze.
A lunar-guan-type vase, slightly rounded, resting on a narrow foot, ending in a short cylindrical neck.
The vase features a short neck, a flattened body, a flared rim, and an oval foot revealing the unglazed body. Fully covered with a glaze imitating Ge ware porcelain, this glaze, at once firm and delicate, offers a rich and lustrous color, with distinct crackles and fluid lines, golden and ferruginous, playing on depth and brightness variations, giving it a simple and elegant appearance.
Symmetrical dragon-shaped handles ornament the junction of the shoulder and neck, bringing a touch of dynamism to the whole and making it both dignified and vibrant.
The lunar vase, also called treasure vase or ribbon vase, owes its name to its shape evoking the full moon, symbol of harmony and national prosperity.
Ge ware porcelain of the Song dynasty exerted a profound influence, and its imitations became an important category under the Qing dynasty.
This piece preserves the original form, but with some additions and deletions, bearing witness to both antiquity and innovation.
Its elegance and dignity embody the refined and unique artistic taste of Ge ware imitations from Jingdezhen during the Qing dynasty.
Dimensions: Height 16.6 cm - Width 12.4 cm
China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), probably dating to the 17th / 19th century.
Excellent condition, with slight signs of wear and firing irregularities.
