Venetian Baroque wall mirror from Italy, dating to circa 1850–1900, with a hand-carved wooden frame finished in polychrome with gold accents, featuring blue, red, green, and brown tones; overall external size about 95 x 45 cm with the mirror glass measuring 58 x 24 cm, in good used condition with patina.
Description from the seller
Magnificent Venetian wall mirror in historicist style – hand-carved wood, ca. 1880
An extraordinary and authentic testament to masterful Italian craftsmanship from the period around 1880. This antique Venetian mirror captivates with its opulent, hand-carved and polychrome-finished wooden frame, reflecting the typical, ornate embellishments of late historicism and Venetian tradition.
Description & Aesthetics
The frame is richly adorned with floral motifs, stylized acanthus leaves, and elegantly curved volutes. Particularly noteworthy is the characteristic color finish in harmonious blues, accents in red, as well as partial gilding or antique-gold effects, which give the mirror a wonderful patina and a warm, noble radiance. The upper and lower finishes are artistically pierced (C- and S-curves), which is typical for the classical-Venetian decorative style of this era. The mirror glass shows authentic, charming signs of age appropriate to its age, underscoring the genuine ancient character of this piece.
