Monumental Neo-Baroque decorative floor candleholder, made of composite materials including wood and resin with gilt details, dating to 1910–1920, height about 68 cm, from Italy, in good condition.
Description from the seller
MONUMENTAL DECORATIVE CANDLESTICK – NEO-BAROQUE STYLE
Elegant and highly decorative monumental floor-standing candlestick, featuring an impressive ornamental presence and an elaborate design in Neo-Baroque / Baroque Revival style.
The upper section consists of a large flower-shaped candle holder, designed to accommodate a candle. Below it is a slender spiral-twisted shaft, richly decorated with deep carved-looking spiral grooves and ornamental scrollwork.
The central section is particularly elaborate, featuring a rounded decorative element adorned with flowers, leaves, garlands and figurative medallion motifs, enhanced by warm gilt and copper-coloured details.
The base consists of an architectural structure supported by three curved legs, decorated with ornamental scrolls and elaborate relief details. At the centre of the base is a striking decorative mask, giving the piece a theatrical and monumental character.
The surface is finished in a rich reddish-brown colour, with patinated, polychrome and gilt details. The elaborate decoration gives the object a particularly rich and luxurious appearance.
Material
The object does not appear to be made entirely of solid wood. Based on the structure and surface decoration, it appears to be made from a composite material, possibly combining wooden elements with moulded resinous/stucco-like components or similar materials, subsequently decorated and finished.
The exact composition has not been technically verified; therefore, it is described as a decorative composite material with polychrome and gilt finishes.
Style
Neo-Baroque / Baroque Revival, with elaborate floral motifs, scrolls, masks and ornamental details.
Period
Late 19th – first half of the 20th century, in historic revival style.
Measurements
* Height: 68 cm
* Maximum base diameter: 25 cm
* Upper candle-holder diameter: 16 cm
Condition
Good overall condition considering the age and nature of the object.
It shows normal signs of age, minor abrasions, slight losses or variations in the finish, wear to the gilding and polychrome decoration, and other superficial imperfections consistent with age and previous use.
The photographs show details of the surface, upper section, base and underside and should be considered an integral part of the description.
Suggested use and setting
A striking decorative object suitable for antique collectors and decorative arts enthusiasts, as well as classical, Neo-Baroque, vintage and historic interiors.
It would work particularly well in a living room, entrance hall, study, dining room, historic interior or antique shop, where it can serve as a strong decorative focal point.
Its impressive height, elaborate ornamentation and distinctive three-legged structure make this a particularly unusual and eye-catching decorative piece.
The candle shown in the photographs, if present, is for display purposes only and is not necessarily included in the sale.
