Description from the seller
Jan van Oort (1921 - 2006) designed during World War II the comic character Paulus de Boskabouter, whose adventures were published from 1946 in Het Vrije Volk. Van Oort called himself "Jean Dulieu" (French translation of "Jan van Oort"). Besides the 8,000 newspaper publications, Paulus appeared in color in a large number of magazines and children's books (translated and published in many countries). The watercolors that Dulieu created for this are each small works of art.
Dulieu was a jack-of-all-trades, a versatile and virtuoso artist whose skill and talent kept pace with his pursuit of perfection. Jean Dulieu received many prizes for his work and is counted among the "Big Three": Marten Toonder, Hans G. Kresse and Jean Dulieu.
This lot contains a beautiful pencil drawing of Paulus and Salomo, for one of the planned book publications. Look at the virtuosity in the sketch and the very refined linework. Dulieu was unique with such refined linework. Delicate and virtuosic with a pen. The minute detail, the composition..., only the greatest can do this.
The drawing is maximally protected and will be sent by registered post to the new owner.
