Description from the seller
Old double bronze-gilt inkwell – Napoleon III – Rocaille decoration with cherubs – complete – 19th century
Superb and substantial desk inkwell dating from the second half of the 19th century, cast in gilt bronze in the Louis XV taste. This piece stands out for the exceptional richness of its openwork decoration composed of rocaille scrolls, foliage, shells and finely chiselled floral motifs.
The pediment is topped by a central cherub and animated by winged figures and ornaments of great finesse, bearing witness to high-quality workmanship. The base rests on four feet adorned with mascarons and features an elegant raised vegetal decoration.
The inkwell is complete, retaining its two original articulated lids as well as its two removable interior reservoirs in gilded metal. The hinges are functional and the whole presents a beautiful old patina.
A decorative as well as utilitarian object, typical of the refinement of bourgeois offices of the Napoleon III era.
Condition:
Very good overall condition. Some light signs of use and a small discreet mark on the top, visible in the photographs. No damage observed. Entirely complete, see photos they are part of the description.
