A 1950s–1960s German Atmos clock in copper, styled in Mid‑Century Modern with a boomerang form and space‑age details, powered for multi‑day use by 220‑volt electricity, with no striking mechanism, dimensions 25 × 18 × 55 cm, and in good working order.
Description from the seller
This model is designed in the Mid-Century Modern (MCM) style, and specifically within the Atomic Age or Space Age movement of the 1950s and 1960s.
This postwar design movement was heavily influenced by the emerging spaceflight, the discovery of atomic structures, and the fascination with speed and the future.
You can recognize the style by the following specific features:
• Asymmetry: The dynamic, slanted form that runs off to one side (often referred to as a boomerang- or fishtail-shape).
• Abstract hour markers: The numbers are omitted and replaced by twelve raised, bulb-shaped brass buttons. This minimalist, abstract dial design is an absolute hallmark of modernist clocks from that period.
• Futuristic details: The clock rests on two metal spheres, creating a floating effect that was very popular in space-time era design.
