Antique Renaissance Brabant cabinet from the Southern Netherlands, made of oak and dating to the 17th century, with door-panel portraits and corresponding coats of arms.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare late 16th – early 17th century Brabant cabinet – Southern Netherlands.
Between 1580 and 1610.

What is special about this piece is that the panels of the doors feature portraits with corresponding coats of arms.
Clearly a cabinet from an aristocratic Brabantine or Southern Netherlands family with history.
My knowledge of heraldry isn’t enough to determine which family.
The coats of arms are somewhat worn now as well.

Beautiful blond oak color, a marvelous hue.
The design is convincingly Brabant/Flemish.
Lower than it is wide.
The arrangement of the doors is also typical.
We also see this in Zeeland (which lies just north of Antwerp).
The side stiles run down to the floor and end in a simple profile.
That’s an early feature; turned feet appear only later.

About 50 years ago it was thoroughly restored.
I have added many detail photos.
Locks and hinges, all ironwork, have been replaced (after 400 years).
The back clearly shows its age; on the left three vertical planks were replaced by an oak panel.
In the front, near the original hinges, small pieces of oak were expertly inlaid.

I ship only to EU countries.
Buyers from other countries must arrange their own transport.
You will receive the shipping details from me.
That can be with UPS, GLS, FedEx, or DHL.
You will receive a label from your carrier and email it to me.
I can advise you.
