Description from the seller
Art Nouveau Decanter / Ewer – Pewter and Amber Glass, c. 1900
Description:
A collectible wine jug (decanter / ewer), crafted in the distinctive European Art Nouveau (Jugendstil) style at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
This piece stands out due to its exceptional elegance, flowing lines, and the organic, floral metalwork characteristic of the era.
Materials and Craftsmanship:
• Body: Made of thick blown glass featuring a sophisticated golden-amber (olive) tint. The lower part boasts a striking bulbous shape that transitions seamlessly into a slender, elongated neck.
• Mounting: The metal frame (neck, base, and matching stopper) is made of artistic pewter, richly decorated with cast relief featuring intertwined botanical patterns. The metal ribbons gently hug the glass body, creating a unified and harmonious composition.
• Handle: A large, stylized C-shaped handle perfectly complements the vessel's silhouette and ensures a comfortable grip for serving.
• Stopper: Includes its original, removable pewter stopper with an elegant decorative finial.
Specifications:
• Style: Art Nouveau / Jugendstil
• Period: Circa 1900
• Country of Origin: Central Europe (Germany / France / Austria)
• Maker's Mark: Unmarked (characteristic of many late 19th / early 20th-century workshops)
• Height (with stopper): 32-33
Condition:
Excellent collectible condition for its age. The glass body is completely intact, with no cracks, chips, or restorations. The pewter mounting retains its beautiful original deep patina, which enhances the details of the relief. The stopper fits securely. The underside of the base shows natural signs of age, confirming its antique origin (please inspect the detailed photographs closely).
This exquisite ewer will make a luxurious addition to any festive table, a valuable centerpiece for a collection of antique European glass and metalware, or a refined gift for a true connoisseur.
